Epidural levobupivacaine alone or combined with different morphine doses in bitches under continuous propofol infusion Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Albuquerque,V.B.; Araújo,M.A.; Ferreira,G.T.N.M.; Fonseca,M.W.; Abimussi,C.J.X.; Ferreira,J.Z.; Oliva,V.N.L.S..
The aim of this study was to assess the cardiopulmonary, analgesic, adverse effects, serum concentration of cortisol and plasma levels of levobupivacaine and morphine in bitches undergoing propofol anesthesia and epidural analgesia with levobupivacaine alone or combined with morphine. This was a randomized 'blinded' prospective clinical study using 32 adult bitches weighing 9.8±4.1kg that were admitted for elective ovariohysterectomy. Twenty minutes after administration of acepromazine and midazolam, anesthesia was induced with propofol (4mg kg-1) and maintained by a continuous rate infusion (CRI). Each animal was randomly assigned to one of four epidural groups: GL = levobupivacaine alone (0.33mg kg-1); GLM0.1 = levobupivacaine and morphine (0.1mg kg-1);...

Intraocular pressure and its correlation with blood gas parameters in crested caracaras (Caracara plancus) anesthetized with isoflurane and sevoflurane Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Ribeiro,A.P.; Vitaliano,S.N.; Thiesen,R.; Escobar,A.; Duque Ortiz,J.P.; Belmonte,E.A.; Werther,K.; Laus,J.L..
The intraocular pressure (IOP) and its correlations with arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO2) and arterial pH were studied in five crested caracaras (Caracara plancus) anesthetized with isoflurane (ISO) and sevoflurane (SEV). Baseline IOP values were measured in both eyes (M0). Brachial artery was previously catheterized to obtain blood gas and cardiorespiratory analysis. Anesthesia was induced with 5% ISO and maintained with 2.5% for 40 minutes. IOP measurements and blood samples were evaluated in different moments until the end of the procedure. After recovering, a second anesthesia was induced with 6% SEV and maintained with 3.5%. Parameters were evaluated at the same time points of the previous procedure. IOP reduced significantly (P=...

Physical exercise on serum electrolytes and acid base balance in Mangalarga Marchador horses submitted to cavalcade of 4, 8 and 20km Ciência Rural
Linhares,Jessica Martins; Filippo,Paula Alessandra Di; Bogossian,Paulo Moreira; Guerra,Rafael Vianna Barbosa de Almeida; Bustamante,Sebastian Ricardo Bustamante; Carvalho,Cláudio Baptista de; Ferreira,Felipp da Silveira.
ABSTRACT: Acid-base and electrolyte disorders have been described in horses associated during and after exercise. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of cavalcade competition on the acid-base and hydroelectrolytic balance in Mangalarga Marchador horses. For this purpose, 15 geldings, 6.2 ± 1.2 years old and clinically healthy, were distributed into three groups of five animals each. Horses were trained to take part in cavalcade competitions. Animals were submitted to cavalcade along 4km (G4), 8km (G8), and 20km (G20) at mean speeds of 15km h-1, 12km h-1, and 12km h-1, respectively. From each horse, venous blood samples were collected before exercise (T0) and immediately after (T1) cavalcade. Bicarbonate ion (HCO3-), pH, partial pressure...

Physiological responses of Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) to anesthesia with essential oils from two different chemotypes of Lippia alba Neotropical Ichthyology
Souza,Carine de Freitas; Baldissera,Matheus Dellaméa; Salbego,Joseânia; Lopes,Jane Mello; Vaucher,Rodrigo de Almeida; Mourão,Rosa Helena Veras; Caron,Braulio O.; Heinzmann,Berta Maria; Silva,Lenise Vargas Flôres da; Baldisserotto,Bernardo.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate if Lippia alba has different chemotypes according to the chemical composition of the essential oil (EO) considering collection site, and if the EO may have different effects on blood and plasma parameters in silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, during and immediately after anesthesia. The citral (EO-C) and linalool (EO-L) chemotypes were identified, and both presented similar anesthetic effects for silver catfish. Fish were exposed to two concentrations of each EO, which induced slow and fast anesthesia (100 and 300 µL L-1, respectively). Blood ions did not change at any time of anesthesia induction and recovery and, therefore, the electrolyte balance was not altered. Blood gases oscillated through all exposure and...

Urinary acidifier in diet with high excess base for adult cats Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Pires,Carolina Padovani; Saad,Flávia Maria de Oliveira Borges; Ogoshi,Rosana Cláudio Silva; Reis,Jéssica Santana dos; Santos,João Paulo Fernandes; Brunetto,Márcio Antonio.
Maintaining the pH of urine in the ideal range (6.2 - 6.4) is of great importance for health promotion in the lower urinary tract of cats. In the economic and standard feed sector this is a major concern, given that the animal urine tends to be alkaline after food consumption of those commercial segments, which predispose to the formation of struvite urolith. Therefore, this study aimed to study the effects of increasing levels of urinary acidifiers (0.0%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9%, on a dry matter base) in feed with high excess base over the acid-basic balance in the organism, apparent digestibility coefficients of nutrients, urinary pH, hydro-electrolyte balance in cats, as well as the adequacy of equations proposed in the literature to estimate the urinary...
